Jamie’s Journey Home was founded out of one extraordinary rescue story, that of a dog named Jamie. Once a frightened puppy mill mother, Jamie slipped her collar and disappeared into the streets of Elkhart the same day she underwent three surgeries. For nearly a year, she evaded capture, surviving on her own and learning to distrust people. When I was asked to help track and rescue her, the challenge tested every ounce of patience, skill, and compassion I had. But bringing Jamie safely home changed everything. It showed me that there are countless other dogs out there just like her, waiting for someone who won’t give up.
Since then, Jamie’s Journey Home has specialized in tracking and capturing lost and fearful dogs. The ones many consider “too hard to catch.” Our mission is to reunite lost pets with their families and to give stray or abandoned animals a second chance at life. We work closely with local pet owners, rescues, and the Humane Society, offering the time, resources, and expertise needed to locate and safely bring home even the most elusive dogs.
When a rescued dog has no known owner, we follow county protocol to locate one. If no one comes forward, the dog receives full veterinary care and is placed for adoption to find its forever home.
